Who doesn’t love a challenge? Think about it. Why does a challenge inspire someone to do something difficult? I’ll tell you. It is like the triple dog dare that got Ralphie’s friend in trouble at the flagpole. (If you haven’t seen Christmas story, you haven’t lived.) I have a good challenge for you. This is one you have been waiting for, and you are going to love it!
Scripture memorization is something we all long to do… What if we really did it?!?! Nothing crazy – like 5 million verses. Just 3 verses a month.
- Chose three verses.
- Take one verse a week and memorize it.
- During the last week of the month, review what you have learned.
During times of trouble they will come to you. When you have doubt and fear you will be reminded of His words. When family and friends are having a rough time, you will be able to comfort them or give them wisdom and direction according to scripture. This is something that matters for eternity. This is something that will not be done in vain.
Let’s start on Monday. Because we are late in the game, we can do just two verses for this month. This gives you the entire weekend to pick the verses you want to memorize for the month of February. For all you over-achievers (Louise), you can work harder and memorize three. Pull up your boot straps and get to work. Share with us what verses you are going to do. Also, let us know how you memorize best. I’m planning to write my verse on notecards, and put one in front of my kitchen sink, one on my bathroom mirror and one in my car. My first verse is going to be…(drum roll please)…
“Send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God , my joy and my delight.” Psalm 43:3-4
I need a challenge in this area of my life for sure! I’m going to memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and use note cards around the house, in my car and in my classroom–16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I love it!!
